DIGITAL DETONATORS -2/6/2002
Digital Detonators save the day at a PA strip-mine site. With the use of Daveyfire Electronic Detonators the Rosebud Mining Company has been able to continue to drill and blast at this site. Vibration limits along with low frequency had this mine at a stand still. Wampum Hardware Co. and Daveyfire introduced the highly accurate digital detonators to the mine operator and the PA DEP. We fired one signature hole to gather the frequency response of the rock, and did a blast design to meet the goals of both the PA DEP and Rosebud Mining. We went from shooting 260 lbs. per delay with high vibration and low frequency to blasting 1000 lbs. per delay reducing the vibration and increasing the frequency to maintain the PA DEP requirements with the Z-curve.
